Welcome to Tapeley Park Gardens

Located in the parish of Westleigh, Tapeley Park sits high on a hill overlooking the River Torridge and the North Devon coastline. Home to the Christie family for two centuries, Hector Christie is the current custodian of the estate.

Tapeley Park is located between Bideford and Barnstaple, near the village of Instow.  Visitors can follow brown tourist signs from the A39 onto the B3233 (please note if you use the post code in Sat Nav you will be directed to the incorrect entrance).  The Tapeley Garden entrance is just beyond the turning sign posted to Westleigh Village, coming from the Bideford direction.

When the sun does come out and the clouds part, the blue sky provides an impressive background to frame the colours of Autumn. Looking particularly ambered in the permaculture garden this month are the orange berries of the Sea buckthorn. The Sea buckthorn has a symbolic place in the Tapeley Park permaculture garden. Hector Christie planted 2 trees when he established the permaculture garden way back in 1990 - for a male is necessary if the female is to produce berries. As we prepare to enter the winter season, it's apt that this beacon is one of the last plants in the garden to bear its fruit, and so impressively too! ...

Tapeley Park
Time may be running out on the 2025 season but on the bottom terrace of the Italian gardens there's one plant which is dominating the fight for visitor attentions!Colletia Paradoxa, better known as an Anchor plant, is a native from South America. It's white flowers produce an powerfully inviting smell, filling the bottom terrace with the scent of marzipan.A unique and quite rare plant in British gardens, its flattened stems (which inspire its name) are in place of leaves. Definitely a specimen which deserves to be seen in all its glory up close!#Tapeleypark #northdevongardens #visitdevon ...
