About Us

Christie Devon Estates takes its name from the Christie family which has had a historical association with North Devon since 1855.

At the heart of the estate is the Tapeley Park stately home and gardens, a place where the past and present sit side by side. Steeped in history, the house is home to Hector Christie, a passionate advocate of sustainability and organic farming techniques.

As a working estate, the Christie Devon Estates management team oversees a diverse portfolio of land and property in the region. It works with tenant farmers in the local area and a number of commercial businesses that rent estate property in North Devon.

Information

Christie Devon Estates also owns a large proportion of Instow beach, Saunton beach and Braunton Burrows, which is home to England’s largest sand dune system. Although privately owned, and constituting working aspects of the estate, the public are granted access to enjoy these scenic spaces.

The architectural grandeur and pioneering sustainability projects of Tapeley Park, and wild majesty of beaches and Burrows, combine with farming and commercial interests to form a country estate that is as unique as the beautiful landscape it occupies.

The latest embodiment of the Christie spirit, Hector takes his place in a family tree which includes an officer who survived the Charge of the Light Brigade, a penniless adventurer who preserved the integrity of a Malabar harem and a Victorian Lady with a flair for design and a sympathy for activism.
